AOTR-We are starting to notice that skateboarding is becoming or has become one of the pillars within the Hip Hop Community do you feel like it could be something if not already something that could be pushed in the forefront again when it comes to representing music and hip hop as a culture?
UGANDA SKATEBOARD SOCIETY-"Hi Tyra,
Am called Gose Gerald the founder of this skate organisation from uganda.
Well, skateboarding has always been another element of hip hop though only real underground rappers were giving it ottention.
Both hip hop and skateboarding fall under street culture and it could be one of the reasons why skateboarding could be counted as one of the pillars of hip hop currently,
Additional to that even here in ugand, rappers give us more support like always coming to our events and perform also some try to skate.
Checkout some of uganda's best rappers on youtube like St Nelly Sade, Byg Sam Yigo, Flex
D' Paper ete™
AOTR-Most definitely agree! Would you say with it being more world wide and it getting more attention moving forward it will get the recognition/respect it deserves or do you think skateboarding will always be looked at as the underdog when it comes to it being a sport?
UGANDA SKATEBOARD SOCIETY-"Point of correction, skateboarding isn't a sport but those who wanted to commercialize it cos of olympics intentions that's the picture they wanted to paint with in the public domain but we the skaters know who we are and what our game stands for.
Secondly skateboarding got it's own audience and brands that supports it independently having hip hop intervene is just a small influence the hip hip industry adds to our community for example lil Wayne skates and most of his fans know what a skateboard is & many have tried it cos of seeing their role model skating however doesn't mean without lil Wayne skateboarding would have failed. Hip hop needs skateboarding and skateboarding needs hip hop cos in this case both parties influence each other"
AOTR-Definitely feel you on that and can't wait to see what the Ugandaskateboardsociety is up to next ..thanks for your time!
